Drosera spatulata is a small, rosette-forming carnivorous plant known for its spoon-shaped leaves covered in sparkling, sticky tentacles. These glistening droplets attract and trap tiny insects, giving the plant both its beauty and its method of feeding. Its compact size and colorful tones—ranging from green to deep red under strong light—make it a fascinating and eye-catching addition to humid terrariums and bog-style setups.

Terrarium (Emersed) Care

Substrate: Use a nutrient-poor, acidic mix such as sphagnum moss or peat moss with sand/perlite. Do not use aqua soil or fertilized substrates, as Drosera gets nutrients from insects, not soil.

Humidity: 60–90%, thrives in humid, enclosed or semi-closed terrariums

Light: Bright indirect light; stronger light enhances red coloration and dew production

Water: Keep the substrate consistently moist using distilled, RO, or rainwater. Avoid tap water due to mineral content.

Temperature: 18–28°C

This plant naturally produces sticky “dew” droplets on its leaves—this is a sign of good health. If dew disappears, it usually means humidity or light levels are too low. With proper conditions, Drosera spatulata will slowly multiply and can even produce small pink flowers on thin stalks.
